About the university

London Metropolitan University, also often referred to as the ‘London MET’, is an attractive university, attracting students from all over the world. High-quality teaching and hands-on activities are the main hallmarks of this university. As its representatives say: their ‘mission is to transform lives through education’

The university was founded in 2002, following the merger of two other universities: University of North London and London Guildhall University. Its roots therefore go back – in fact – to 1848, making London MET one of the oldest English universities.

Until recently, London MET was renowned for its multiculturalism, with 30% of all students being foreigners. At the moment they comprise 10% of all students.

There are 14,000 students at the university. Of these, 64% are female and 36% are male.

Teaching
  • London Metropolitan University is one of the top 700 universities in the world, according to the Top Universities ranking and one of the 800 according to Times Higher Education.
  • The courses organised by this university are very highly rated – they received the highest scores in terms of teaching quality.
  • The university consists of six faculties: Guildhall School of Business and Law, School of Computing and Digital Media, School of Human Sciences, School of Social Professions, School of Social Sciences and Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design.

Modern campuses and a great location
  • The university comprises three campuses, located in the heart of London.
  • All campuses are located by major tube stations, such as Moorgate, Aldgate and Shoreditch – allowing for quick and seamless transport.
  • The main campus is located in the north of the English capital, in Holloway. It overlooks the stadium of Aresnal London. From Holloway itself, you can get to the centre in 10 minutes.
Putting knowledge into practice
  • The university is mainly known for its highly regarded, practical courses in law and criminology: their participants take part in mock trials, in a dedicated courtroom.
  • London MET strives to move with the times by maintaining links with companies representing various industries. This ensures that the courses on offer are in line with current trends and teach the skills required in the job market.
  • To gain work experience, the university offers on-campus job opportunities. On the Met Temps website, you can also find job and volunteer opportunities in various organisations.
  • London Metropolitan University also organises a part-time job fair and a volunteering fair each year.
  • The university also runs a mentoring scheme, which puts students in touch with representatives from their chosen industry.
Facilities for students

The university awards around £700,000 each year to students with outstanding academic or sporting achievements (this includes hockey, tennis and basketball).

Well-studied international students also receive a £1,000 scholarship from London Metropolitan University. They can also apply for postgraduate scholarships and bursaries that include free accommodation.

London MET also collaborates with many universities in Europe and the US and supports students participating in the Erasmus programme.

At the university, you can join organisations such as the Anime Society and the Food and Networking Society.

Requirements
  • This is a university that is not difficult to get into with a Polish baccalaureate. All you need to do is to pass the basic baccalaureate at 60% in three subjects and two examinations at extended level – at 40% for science subjects and 50% for humanities subjects.
  • This university does not require you to take the IELTS language exam if you pass the extended baccalaureate in English with at least 75%. If you take the IELTS exam, you must pass it with a 6.0 and have at least a 5.5 in each component.
  • The university offers courses with a so-called ‘foundation year’. – for which slightly lower requirements apply.
Additional information
  • The university is friendly to foreigners – it organises many events, excursions and workshops for them.
  • In terms of the number of foreigners at the university, Poles are in second place. Italians are in first place.
  • London MET University has been named the ‘number one university’ in England for reducing carbon emissions.
